Cueva de los Tayos
Cueva de los Tayos is one of Limón Indanza’s most emblematic natural and cultural attractions and one of the best-known cave systems in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Expeditions, research and accounts have made it known beyond Ecuador for decades, including those shared in works such as El Oro de los Dioses and stories associated with Juan Moricz.
It is located in the foothills of the Cordillera del Cóndor, near the Coangos River, within the Shuar territory of the Coangos community. Its name comes from the *tayos*—nocturnal birds that inhabit the cave's interior. The experience allows visitors to discover vast natural galleries, rock formations, and an underground environment of great scenic, geological, and cultural value, deeply linked to the land and the memory of the Shuar people.
Due to the nature of the route, entry requires advance planning, good physical fitness, proper equipment, safety measures, and the accompaniment of specialized, authorized guides.
